But the RS in the RST is completely subjective. What is S9-extremely strong signals-compared to? I choose to compare them all to the signal being sent back to Earth by Pioneer 10. 73 John AF5CC _____
In the US, at least, it seems that many new hams are getting into amateur radio almost solely for Emergency Communications (EMCOMM) and maybe some public service, and many local clubs here have taken
If you remember near the end of Cycle 23, scientists were predicting that Cycle 24 might be the largest one on record. Shows how good their predictions are. 73 John AF5CC ____________________________
Here is one story on the incorrect prediction: https://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2006/21dec_cycle24/ 73 John AF5CC _______________________________________________ CQ-Contest maili
Probably the main way that many contesters were introduced to contesting is in Field Day. I know that was my first introduction to it. Hopefully most local clubs are still doing Field Day and introdu
Hi Bob, It was never my intent to "bash" an entire field or even an individual scientist. I am sorry that it came out that way and will try to choose my words better in the future. I can't find the o

I have 2 radios that I would like to be able to use in dual receive mode, meaning I can listen to both at the same time. They would be using 1 antenna, and only one radio would be used for transmitti
One of the radios (Kenwood TS2000) has an RX ant jack. The other radio (Yaesu FT891) just has a SO239 for the antenna, no RX in or out jacks. I have found a couple of different devices that will allo
Hi Rich, Yes, that is what I am hoping to accomplish and I have found a couple of different devices to allow this. Interesting that the 7600 and FTDX5000 have RX in and out jacks since they both alre
Several reasons: 1. You can't copy well enough to know that they aren't calling you 2. Related to #1, maybe if you call enough you will end up in the on-line log anyways 3. Unfortunately sometimes th
I worked 2 of those 0 and 00 stations also. Both were from KP4. Missed the 10 meter opening today, did hear V51YJ yesterday on 15 but didn't get him. Nice to hear 15 open to other hemispheres at this
Don't forget the special callsign DX1S also = DX IS. I think that was in 2001 or so. _______________________________________________ CQ-Contest mailing list CQ-Contest@contesting.com http://lists.con
I would assume that more time was wasted because probably many people wouldn't understand the cut numbers and would ask for repeats. I get the T good enough, but I would have to think about the U one
At least in the US, the 3 cut numbers most often used are T for 0, N for 9, and A for 1. T and N are commonly used here and understood. A is slightly less used but pretty well understood here also. T
Break up VO1 and VO2 into different sections. Do the same for VY1, VY0 and VE8. Now that would make getting a sweep a real challenge!! 73 John AF5CC _______________________________________________ CQ
Do we know why there are fewer new contesters doing the SS than other contests? Maybe the long exchange? Any other things turning off new licensees from this contest? 73 John AF5CC __________________

I am usually the opposite. I will do CW SS but not SSB SS. After the Illinois QSO party, CQWW SSB, and CW SS in consecutive weekends, I usually take off the next 2 weekends to get ready for the CQWW
