Hi, sorry for late post, but originally posted elsewhere and was told appropriate for this list which I just joined. Glad to meet you guys. Due to family obligations during RTTY Roundup only had two
Hi John, it is possible but I used same setup a week later in NAQP CW and got more business than I could handle. Also, got good unsolicited signal report from N2IC in New Mexico. I check my signal st
Thanks very much, Art, for the detailed response. Hope to work you in NAQP SSB. My hearing is poor and SSB has always been tougher for me than CW, but hope to manage. 73, Barry WA2VIU -- Barry Jacobs
Hi Jim, I use the MFJ989D tuner which is quite capable and gets me 1:1 on all bands including 160 where the antenna is too short. It is fed with ladder line all the way from back of tuner to antenna.
I found the older RBN records from RTTY Roundup on 20 and 40m. The signal doesn't seem too bad. Barry WA2VIU -- Barry Jacobson WA2VIU bdj@alum.mit.edu @bdj_phd _______________________________________
Hi guys, it seems that in a contest like NAQP where presumably almost everyone is running the same 100 W power, you should be able to hear the other guy at the same level he hears you. Even if the ot
Wanted to participate, especially with such a famous author involved. Would have been my first sprint. But had tickets to a minor league basketball game. Next year don't schedule sprint during basket
Hi, I need advice on getting one of the antenna analyzers on the market. I have an 80 meter dipole fed with ladder line from an MFJ 989D tuner. I seldom use 10 meters, but tried to go on the 10-10 ph
Thanks very much for the help, guys. I am going to try to join Tower Talk which I never heard of before. Yes, the manual mentions either adding an 1/8 or subtracting an 1/8. Adding 3/8 would be simil
Hi, thanks for the info. Does the Rig Expert do whatif scenarios? If it makes measurements of my current setup, will it let me know the effects of shortening or lengthening the feedline without actua
Hi Ray, these are all very deep and difficult topics. The only matching I have is between coax patch cord that plugs into rig and mfj989d tuner. It matches coax to the ladder line. But between the la
I plan to do EZNEC hoping to gain some intuition. I agree about the nulls. Probably a clover pattern of some sort. In retrospect, probably a fan dipole or folded dipole would have been better. Not su
Hi Jim, I think what it boils down to is the amount of time and money (and physical agility to climb ladders) to achieve perfection. Here is an article from the ARRL itself extolling ladder line dipo
Hi Mike, thanks for the thoughts. That could be an option, but requires getting up on roof, and my climbing days are mostly behind me. I will probably try to trim the feedline if I have enough slack.

Yes, but may have just copied from an ARRL page or other ham site. -- Barry Jacobson WA2VIU bdj@alum.mit.edu @bdj_phd _______________________________________________ CQ-Contest mailing list CQ-Contes
I would like to amend last line to say: Those would just give extra dits. -- Barry Jacobson WA2VIU bdj@alum.mit.edu @bdj_phd _______________________________________________ CQ-Contest mailing list CQ
Very sorry to hear. Tower work is so dangerous. Rev. Paul Bittner W0AIH fell, as did quite a few others, if you Google ham tower fall. I am nervous about my own ladder line dipole over my roof becaus
This is interesting. Can a drone be used to put up or precisely place an existing dipole? Barry WA2VIU -- Barry Jacobson WA2VIU bdj@alum.mit.edu @bdj_phd _____________________________________________
