IMHO, much of contesting is personal and based on your own experience of what works best. I think the best contesting tip is get your butt in the chair and keep it there. Practice, practice, practice

I truly believe that ten meters is open more often than people think it is. 15 and 20 are usually pretty solid, so folks are there rag chewing or chasing DX. 10 is not as utilized because it's not a

I can't imagine paying much attention to anything but the radio and the logging software when the rates go way up (over 200/hour) as a single op. Now add in paying attention to the 2nd radio (SO2R) a

Computer interfaces are a godsend on 40 and 80. That's my answer to save us. I never touch the split button on my rig anymore, I just hit the "-" key and enter the correct fequency (if it wasn't in t

Knowing your radio is great, and essential. However it's clear (both from experience and listening on the bands) that after 24-30 hours straight (2nd night) remembering to set splits and not transmit

I don't think there will or needs to be any change in the phone bands. Both parts of bands get crowded at times (contests mainly). I think the problems with phone in the "wrong" places will go away l

I see two issues here. 1. Create another category so more folks have a chance at wallpaper 2. a way to run a contest "seriously" without killing your weekend (and putting other parts of your life in

I like the idea! Maybe it's a 24 hour contest but you can only operate 6 hours. Count multipliers only once (not once per band) to encourage operation during the high band openings where the rate is

Let's not loose the focus on this one guys. This is a good topic, worthy of good discussion. Here's some thoughts on why it can't be changed (none of which I believe by the way): 1 - just plain old

Whoa! I think most favor the rules being enforced, not just doing away with packet because contesters sometimes break that rule. If we follow that logic we should do away with the 10 minute rule, bec

I would agree 100%. Here's my argument though. If somebody wants to get on for an hour and point and shoot, more power to them. It's some easy q's for both the spotted stations and the s&per. If some

Unless of course these "fly in ops" can't have a station at home due to CC&R's, or they are apartment dwellers. Not everyone has the desire to or is lucky enough to grow towers in their backyard. 73

Rate dictates this, not some external rule imposed by contesters or sponsors. If you can run, run. If everyone is running, you won't be able to, so you're rate will drop and you'll s&p. We've already

A very good point was made about Run frequencies not being relinquished when a station moves to S&P. SO2R is one example, and now many MM stations are utilizing a 2nd station on a band for S&P operat

If another station is on your frequency it will definetly hurt somebody's rate. It probably depends on who is louder in the prime target area. If you're louder, the other stations run will slow down

I actually think Eric's idea might be the best one I've heard, sending the exchange from the last station you worked. Everyone could start off using their postal code (everyone in the world has one,

How is this hard to explain. "Send to the next guy what you recieved in the previous exchange" seems to cover it pretty well. Furthermore, little harm would be done if the casual contester just sent

Same way we do now, post the rules online in a clear concise format. Just has to be clear that your log MUST reflect the exchange you send for each qso in order to be scored correctly. Seems easy eno
