Joe, K1JT posted announcement of a dry-run to test WSJT-X in a contest setting. The post was to the WSJT-X mailing list, but it's about contesting, so it's likely relevant to readers of this list, as

As we move ever closer to fully-automated data modes, the divide between data and non-data modes gets bigger.  When and if the operator becomes incidental, what will be the point of such contest QSOs

You are not alone. I think use of data modes in contests is for computer users, not traditional contesters. Like RTTY, the new data modes should have their own contests, apart from the regular phone

That's pretty narrow-minded. Ham radio started with spark and every ham building 100% of their own kit. That's REAL ham radio! 100 years later, ham radio is a lot more. It's FAR more than contesting.

What do you care what the data modes are evolving into if you don't use them (even RTTY) and they don't affect the CW and SSB contests that you do use? I don't get it.  Amateur radio is thankfully a

Dave, I fully agree. Its too bad that so many focus only on the negatives. Fortunately it really helps a lot to bitch and moan about our evolving hobby on reflectors like this one. Otherwise it would

That is not correct: FT8 is combined with CW and SSB in VHF contests. There it is very annoying for example to deal with a 30/Q hour rate (or whatever the max FT8 rate is) in a big Es opening, when y

AB7E offers a definition of "bigotry" which he then demonstrates applies to himself - by engaging in an ad hominem attack. I care about what amateur radio is evolving into, and suggested, as an examp

David, AB7E, you are totally wrong about digital modes effecting CW. This is a big problem on 40 meters during any domestic CW contest. 7040 and 5 khz on either side is unusable during any CW contest

Last I looked 7074 was the standard dial frequency for FT8 on 40M. Have I missed something? 73, Jim K9YC _______________________________________________ CQ-Contest mailing list CQ-Contest@contesting.

Maybe it's some other digital mode? But I hear it all the time around 7040. Only have tried FT8 on 6 meters so not sure of the exact HF frequencies.  Jeff  Jeff Clarkeku8e@ku8e.com  Last I looked 707
