I really like Richs suggestion. I think it has the potential to increase Sunday activity without ripping SS out of the hands of smaller stations with good ops. Im not completely shutting down Jeffs s
I was gonna say, I heard a little bit of everything in this one. Automatic CQ loops with bug exchanges. Slow but perfect straight key exchanges with (by our standards, meaning a CK in this century),
Jeff, Today's contests are actually two-in-one: one for the obvious frequent "winners" and the other for the rest of us. I am not complaining because I think anyone who builds a super station, in a g

Sunday has been bad for years. Why is this year more special or more bad (sk) than other years? Maybe people can only handle it for so many years before it is no longer fun. We are no different than
I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of clicks this year - maybe it's just that the noise level had my AGC depressed, but I only heard one bad clicker - a VE4 (no, not you, Kelly). I need to try t
What is making Sunday not fun? Slow Rates? Sounds like the majority of the complaints. These crybabies obviously have never done a VHF/UHF contest. Where you're happy to get 1 Q a hour the second day

You had me beat there. I didn't hear any VE4s the entire contest. Only worked MAR, ONS, GTA, ONE, and BC from Canada, which is really surprising. I didn't operate on 20 meters at all, though, so I am
SS has been an old timers contest for as long as I have been contesting - 20+ years. Virtually no one coming into contesting in the last 2 decades is a gung ho SS competitor. The SS group is growing
Sent from my iPhone Hi John, Im not sure such would have the desired effect. I think it might actually have the opposite effect. People would be encouraged to work through the night, further depletin
Ed, I have to take exception to your comment, I may be able to see old-Timer from where I am, but have only been contesting with any sort of intensity for the last 7-years. SS is one of, if not my fa
Hello Art. No offense intended. I believe that people getting involved in SS in the past 10 years and considering it their favorite contest are a rarity indeed. The submitted log numbers and complain
I've been sympathetic to many of the ideas shared in this thread, but upon reading Kelly's defense of the Sweepstakes rules I find myself fully persuaded. He's absolutely right. The playing field is
Six more hours, are you serious? This contest ends pretty late on the east coast, perhaps 24 hours (ending 2100z Sunday) with no off time would be OK. John KK9A One more rule change that might increa
I dont know about the new hams in the last 7 years but my love for SS goes back to it being the only contest I could even compete in having only a vertical, wires and low power for my first 5 years i
Early Saturday, I heard a weak VE4 for a few minutes, but could never have worked him QRP from W6. Late Sunday I heard a fairly strong S&P station send MB once, but only heard the last part of the ex
It sounds like the trade is a feeling of "even playing field" vs painfully slow conditions for the stronger stations. 2 an hour for the big guns while the smaller stations do 30 an hour and catch up.
How about some contesters setting up contest expeditions to some of these rare sections for SS? There is usually a table or chart showing the rarest sections of the year's contest in the full online
It all seems like the post-SS blues ive Seen on this reflector since the inception of the reflector. SS is the oldest contest in ham radio, and bellyaching about it, I believe, will do no good. As Wa
