I made a mistake here. What I meant to say is that the IFC-232 connects to an available COM port on your computer using a null-modem cable. The IFC-232 has its own cable with some sort of DIN connect

I don't think there is a "standard" per-se. The serial number field was recently enlarged from 4 to 5 digits (characters), that accounts for the change you saw. CT takes the space between the fields
