Can anyone tell me what these little black boxes attached to powerline poles around my house are? I suspect that one of them is a source of RFI. Here's a link to pictures of the black boxes. They are

Yes, I suspected that it was part of the cable system. I get S9 "powerline like" noise on HF all the way up through (and past I suppose) 432Mhz. Sometimes the NB will knock it down, but not always. T

The CATV line is the second line up. You can see the splitters on that line in picture 3. The black boxes are on what appears to be the telephone line, and they have a standard numbering system used

I'll have to post another picture. One of those boxes looks like it has blown apart and there is a multi-wire cable dangling up there as well. The multi-wire cable could have been there before I supp

Yes, this is what I'm now suspecting. Maybe power somehow arc'd to this box and caused it to blow. If this is true, then the arc may still be there and my noise problem may come back once temperature

I'm looking forward to seeing the picture, but my guess is that there was a guy up on the pole doing a haphazard job around the same time you heard the explosion and it's just coincidental. -- Hisash
