The reason is the other station had USOS turned off and you had it turned on. It is HIGHLY recommended that everybody have USOS turned on. USOS is a great invention, but either both stations must use

You raise a very good question, although I don't consider manual dupe checking a "skill". A person with no knowledge of radio at all could do that. So, what do we have left? 1. Propagation knowledge.
