I think I found a better way to explain the advantage of spaces in the exchange. Chen is correct in his analysis if you only send the exchange one time, such as 599-001. Here a space won't help. And

Aha, I see you fell for that fallacy, Bill. If you are repeating an exchange only once, it is only good as what is known as an Error Detection code. I.e., it tells you something is wrong, it does not

Oops sorry, I meant to say *two* or more repeats (i.e., a total of three serial numbers, or more). 73 Chen, W7AY _______________________________________________ RTTY mailing list RTTY@contesting.com

This weekend I've seen 599 001 001 599-001-001 599/001/001 500001 001 N1MM logger handled them all with nary a hiccup. Seems like much ado about nothing :-) 73 Tom W7WHY _____________________________

REPLY: Here's where we part company. If I see 599 QWE 123 I will not ask for a repeat. I will click on the 123 just as if the sender had sent only that. Is it perfect? No. Is it close enough? Yes. Bi

There you go changing the rules again, Bill. I thought you have very clearly stated the premise that you send a repeated number so they other end knows for sure s/he has received the right number. If

At least I am willing to admit that "599-123-1WE" requires a repeat. Not me. In fact, I would accept "599-123-#@$..." as 123. Copy has a very good chance of being correct through the second dash. Sur

REPLY: Good question, Here's a good answer: I don't send the exchange twice for my benefit. I send it for the other guy's. I want his log to be as accurate as mine. There are folks who disagree and s

I guess I am a neophyte RTTY op, as if I don't see 599 123 I have to ask for a repeat. Sorry guys! 73,  David AD4TJ ________________________________ From: Kok Chen <chen@mac.com> To: RTTY Reflector <
