I hit EE3R a couple of times. They kept sending QR for their section. No one else seems to ask. So I ask. They just kept sending me their exchange. I didn't know what to do. The program (N1MM) certai

QR is simply 14 without the figs shift character. Welcome to RTTY! Seriously, the RTTY character set consists of figures and letters, both sent by the same key on the keyboard. The difference between

Is this right after they sent 599 and a space? If so, it is possible that you have USOS set, and they didn't have it set. When that happens, that space character will cause your decoder to go to LTRS

David, Your setup or the propagation or for whatever reason is missing the 'shift-to-numbers' character. Therefore instead of getting the number 14, the un-shifted numbers show on your screen as QR.

I'm not sure that (dropped FIGS) is what happened since it happened for the same station (EE3R) each time, and David kept getting QR when he asked for a repeat. Remember that David had mentioned That

And trying to remember all that while in the heat of battle is not necessary when using N1MM. Look at the top of the RX window and you will see a single line, split pane window. When you put your cur

Thanks for the QSO, Eric - good signal on 40m. There were also a VO1 and a VO2 who were both sending "NL". Each station confirmed this when queried. Obviously we should log it as received, and everyo

Thanks for the explanation. It was right after the 599 and space. If this is an issue interpreting letters and numbers, why is 599 correct, and the 14 is not? David Wilburn NM4M _____________________

The reason is the other station had USOS turned off and you had it turned on. It is HIGHLY recommended that everybody have USOS turned on. USOS is a great invention, but either both stations must use

Probably because he is in LTRS state after he finishes the callsign + space part of the exchange, so he had to send a FIGS just before the 599. Lets say he is sending "NM4M 599 14" and does not have

Actually, Bill and I disagree on this one (and on FSK vs AFSK too :-). I think USOS is very nice with text rich messages. I.e., most characters right after a space is in LTRS shift. However, its cont
