Hi Bill, Roger. FT-2K. Way more rig than I need, but I got it at a good price. In contests I always run full power. For rag chewing, which is mostly on PSK, I run 30-40W. At my 40 & 80M station, in t

Remember that PSK31 works under a different "rule." PSK31 is, through the genius of Peter G3PLX, not simply PSK modulation but also is amplitude waveshaped. If not for the amplitude waveshaping, PSK

I always was under the impression(from when Peter released the original PSK31) that low power was the order. Generally 10 watts max. Here I see stations indicating they run 30, 40 and even higher pow

More power by itself does not necessarily create more distortions, but they will amplify existing distortion. Bad amplifiers can add to IMD, of course. And many of todays "top rated" rigs still have

The FT2K is a nice rig on PSK. It's virtually impossible to make a wide signal with it. Very insensitive to the ALC setting. And it's as clean (32db or better) at full output and half output. For the

ORIGINAL MESSAGE: REPLY: I have always wondered about this. Is the varying amplitude really necessarY. What if the carrier was phase-shifted only? 73, Bill W6WRT _____________________________________

Yes, the amplitude (a co-sinisoidal pattern for the I and Q components) is absolutely what is keeping the bandwidth of PSK31 narrow. If you take a carrier and just flip the phase by 180 degrees each
