Based on the recommendations from the guys on this reflector, I picked up a pair of Sony 7506s which work just great with my O2. Very comfortable too. I also have those cheap noise-canceling headphon
Crit, Gerald et al, I have an Argo V and an O2. While the Argo V receiver is not as good as the O2, it's very good in its own right, in my experience better than the ones in comparably-priced ricebox
The 706 desk mike works pretty well too. 73, Ray W2RS _______________________________________________ TenTec mailing list TenTec@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/tentec
You don't need a TNC or interface box to do RTTY. The supplied audio cable, and a computer running MMTTY or similar software, will work just fine. 73, Ray W2RS _______________________________________
Greg, Yes, when operating PSK/RTTY with the audio cable hook-up, you use the VOX to control T/R switching. That means that you have to adjust the levels to make it happen, but it does work. Some guid
Hi Stuart, Yes, I used to do RTTY with a PK-232 and a KWM-2 (de-rated to 50 W output for RTTY), but it's so much easier with modern software such as MMTTY and either of my TT radios (Argo V and O2).
I'm curious as to what O2 settings others are using for the 706 mic. So far at least, I seem to have settled on 60 for the mic gain and +5 dB for the TX EQ. Tnx & 73, Ray W2RS _______________________
At age 63, I now find that my eye-hand coordination is not as good as it used to be, and I find mice not as easy to use as old-fashioned knobs. The pad-type device on a laptop is even harder for me t
Having done quite a lot of both over the years, I would suggest that VHF/UHF is just as challenging as HF, but the challenges are different, i.e., extremely weak EME signals in quasi-white noise vs.
Tnx, Ron. I too have found SP 3 to be the optimal setting for most SSB operation, but turn SP off when signals are strong enough. 73, Ray W2RS _______________________________________________ TenTec m

Hi Ken, I didn't notice much difference between 2.032 and 2.034, but maybe some of the others did. Anyway, 2.034 is working well on my O2. 73, Ray W2RS _______________________________________________
KH8SI was pretty easy from Arizona on 30 CW and 17 SSB, but where my O2 really showed its stuff was working 3Y0X on 160, barefoot, with a "nothing" antenna -- a quarter-wavelength inverted L only 25
Hi all, I just downloaded and installed 2.037J in my O2. Haven't yet tried it (other than turning the radio on to see that it still works) so I have no report to give. I should mention, however, that
I guess different folks want different strokes, but I found the sidetone too loud with previous firmware and kept it set at 10 or 20. With 2.037j I find 40 to be about right for me. I generally liste
I don't have DX4WIN, but I noticed that after installing 2.037j the antenna switching settings in the O2 menu were deleted and had to be put back in manually. Once I did that, the auto antenna switch
I agree with Ron. With 2.034, it sounded pretty distorted with SP settings higher than 3. Now I can go up to 4 or 5 with acceptable results. Another problem I had with prior firmware, one that I have
Tom, No, I just left the mic gain at 52, that with a TT 706 mike. I ran the SP at 5 during the WAE, with good audio on the monitor. As you suggested, though, I'll experiment with turning down the mic
