Personally, I'm skeptical about the overwhelmingly positive reports on the IC7300. I tend to think 99% of the operators out there aren't as finicky as me. I also think there's too much peer pressure
(sorry for more non-TT content) A faster computer isn't going to make a noticeable difference. I've contested with the ANAN-100D. The latency doesn't result in missing the first parts of exchanges. T
I'm a big fan of roundabouts but I fear that the two lane variety with exits at each cardinal point (which we have in my area) are prone to disaster. Bearing in mind that roundabouts go counter clock
What direct sampling digital receivers can offer are optimized bandpass filtering ahead of the ADC. These are somewhat analogous to roofing filters. The IC7300 lacks "dual watch" or multiple virtual
The Orion also tends to develop encoder connectivity issues as it ages. Personally, I wouldn't recommend an Orion 565 unless the new owner is self-reliant for performing some maintenance. The Orion I
I think the 16-bit ADC equipped direct sampling ANAN and Flex 6K receivers give up nothing to the O2/K3s. FWIW, I've compared them all. It's a matter of ergonomic preference as far as I'm concerned.
Except in terms of ergonomics. Omni 6+ is the ergonomically best radio ever made IMHO. Also has the sweetest sounding cw receiver ever. And then there's that fantastic qsk. etc etc 73, Barry N1EU
Elecraft support is great but they simply void the warranty if the radio is sold during the warranty period. I know that Flex transfers the warranty to the new owner for a nominal fee. Barry N1EU
I think you mean the vfoB encoder does not work. Either vfo can be assigned to either receiver. I suspect a cable is misconnected inside the front panel. What work was done on your Orion2? 73, Barry
I'm actually not sure Rick. 9V1YC just posted a glowing review after using the IC-7300 on the 4W dxpedition. You can read the review here: http://www.eham.net/ehamforum/smf/index.php/topic,106024.45.
It's called a KX-3 I've got one, but I usually carry a much lighter KX-1 or MTR-5B when I actually hike up a mountain. (200 SOTA activations here) 73, Barry N1EU
Rick, I'm not sure if you would be satisfied by the KX1 or the MTR radios. Unfortunately I don't know the answer to something better but not too expensive. I suggest you try to borrow an MTR-5B. That
