In addition to N4TZ/9's suggestion, I found that one more line was necessary in my *.cfg file: RADIO ONE TYPE = ORION RADIO ONE CONTROL PORT = SERIAL 1 RADIO ONE BAUD RATE = 57600 That did the trick
