I don't have my Paragon anymore but my advice is never use an Alkaline battery in the Paragon. If it blows you will have a mess. If your rechargeable battery is not lasting longer than overnight you

When you turned it back on is it really on? If the 9 volt battery were dead this should not effect operation of the radio or display, only the loss of calendar, clock and frequency memories. Perhaps
