- Ummm... Looking at the QST review of the Orion at (ARRL members only): http://www.arrl.org/members-only/prodrev/pdf/pr0401.pdf you'll see the cw keying waveform for external keying, on a time base of

- Was an indicated setting of 5 "too low"? If so what is the person using external keying to do? Is this at root a firmware problem that in theory could be readily fixed or a hardware problem? Bob NW8L

- Right, that was understood. The Orion review was the only evidence I've ever seen regarding it's keying characteristics, so that's why it was referenced. I'll have to take a scope home from work over

- Good advice. Being a "show me" type, I took a digital scope home and looked at the indicated vs. measured rise times for cw keying in my Orion with firmware version 1.371. Scope: Tek TDS210 - 60 MHz,

- I was interested in total rise time, so I measured from 0% to 100%, plus or minus 0.1 ms as best I could judge by eye, but the very distinct and uniform waveform made it pretty easy to do at 2.5 ms p

- Of course you're right. It really should be measured like a pulse or square wave, in the standard way. After all it's between 10% and 90% where most of the "action" is anyway since this is a sinusoid
