- I don't know about any updates but Ten Tec will still go through the unit for you if you send it in. I also use a 544 as a primary unit with the 104 mic and get good reports. I'm in the Chicago area

- Marty, I don't see any ext. ALC on the rear but there is an ALC pot & Drive pot on the front and I suppose you could use this to lower the drive power that way. Never worked QRP my self but did build

- Steve, Sorry that my answer wasn't what you needed but I am not sure what you mean by 'RF Ground'. The ground terminal on the 540 (looking at the rear of the chassis) is to the right of the heat sink

- Don't know about WWII but when I arrived at the Navy squadron & went to radioman school there, I needed 18 wpm to graduate. After flying as a radioman for 2 to 3 years we normally ran at about 25-28
