- When the OII is in FSK mode, it expects fsk keying through the AUX port. Without fsk keying, all you get out is a steady carrier. To use AFSK, the OII has to be in SSB mode. I've used both - finally

- I don't think the OrionII can be keyed by the serial port. I use a rigblaster pro to handle the keying - the DTS serial port handshaking line is used to key the Orion via the keying jack on the back

- I no longer have my herc, but for 7 years I used an RV battery with a $15 Walmart trickle charger. That combo worked fine, and even with heavy cw and ssb operation, never ran the battery down. Dave C
