What are the advantages of using an external frequency reference, such as from a GPS receiver with a single RX-340? How important is that kind of accuracy for HF reception? Also, how far off in frequ

Jim, When I was first hooking up my RX340, I accidentally plugged my HF antenna into the external reference input. The front panel LED actually lit indicating that the RX340 had detected a 10 MHz ref

It looks like your Orion may be out of spec. TT published specs on Orion's temperature stability is +/- 10 ppm, At 10 MHz, that is 30 Hz. Your Orion had an excursion of 989.0 - 953.7 or 35.3 Hz. One

I had a typo in my original post. I meant to say +/- 3 ppm and I thought that was being generous. 1 ppm sound more likely for a TOL rig such as the Orion. With +/- 1 ppm, the excursion should be less
