I would expect the first of those options to be the case only in some bizarre parallel universe :-) The second depends on each of our personal definitions of "inexpensive". I'd expect it to be on th

"Receiver" is probably just a bad choice of words on my part. The 781 had a dedicated module that did nothing but sweep, with a signal pick-off early in the IF chain, so a receiver in the loose sens

Interesting. I use the software only remotely (from a computer in my office, outside the radio room) so I haven't watched the radio at the same time I was tuning from the PC. Is it because I can spi

I'm not quite sure what you mean, but of course it moves when you tune. It doesn't move WHILE you tune, at "normal" tuning dial rates using the knob. The minute you stop, or even just hesitate, the

Very noisy band conditions here tonight, with storm noise in the area -- lousy band conditions overall, and propogation seemed to be off, with many of the usual big gun signals not up to par. I set o

It's true that the sweep may not meet everyone's operating needs. It's better than it has been previously, and is certainly more than adequate for my use. As I indicated in a post last night, I foun

I did redo the SNR tests on 20 today. The result there with a much better band noise profile to work with was on the order of 20dB improvement. I ran most of the tests at 1Khz BW. I'm not trying to

That's my normal setting, too. But now at least I know's there a setting that will generally keep the sweep updating. I was probably the last one figure to figure it out, though :-) Grant/NQ5T

I seriously doubt that V1 was bounds ahead of V2 in SNR improvement. I doubt it was actually any better at all. That's a guess, of course, because I don't have a v1 radio to measure any more. V2 is

Except for the fact that I was talking about the NB and not NR :-) To your point, I've come to the conclusion that while you're generally correct, NR does add to SNR even at very narrow bandwidths.
