Actually, the Q-Tip will likely leave fibers behind. When I do a repair here I do an inspection with a 20 X inspection microscope to check soldering, card edge connectors and anything else important.

My first guess is propagation...as I type this I see very little noise and almost no signals on many of the bands. I thought my radio was broken but tried another with the same results. Hmmmm.......?

I'd vote for that! :-) I doubt that will happen, although they could reduce the cost of the radio by eliminating the control panel and displays. Maybe design their next high end rig like the Jupiter
