Mark, My ORION has sounded a bit distorted on MW AM from time to time. I believe the AGC threshold setting has something to do with the audio quality on AM. Also the new RF gain feature should help o
Dave, I have an SP-325 but am not sure what version it is. How do you tell the difference? It is working just fine and is in decent but not mint condition. 73, Bill - K6WLM Sacramento, CA
Dan, Your monitor scope should be placed between your antenna tuner and your radio so that it sees a 50 ohm matched load when the antenna tuner is properly tuned. 73, Bill - K6WLM
Guy, There is a signal ground pin AND a shield ground pin in a standard serial cable configuration. Some commercial cables do not even have a shield! Make up your own cables and you will be happier.
Hello Mr. Bill, Happy New Year to you! Hope you are doing well. Ten Tec Argo V and 6N2 still working well. Thanks & 73, Bill - K6WLM Sacramento, CA WILLIAM MANSEY wrote:

Bob, The MFJ passive preselector is a low Q device with only a single series tuned LC circuit. I have tried one on my T-T 1254 SWL receiver with some improvement but the 1254 has only a broad bandpas
Bill, I am using the HC-5 element with my ORION and it seems to work pretty well. Audio reports are favorable from people that know my voice. Even the HC-5 does not have a lot of bass response but yo
Brian, I agree with Jerry K0CQ. This is most likely a bad (open or high ESR) aluminum electrolytic capacitor. The type of noise you describe could be from the Microcontroller or the BA618 display dri
Todd, The Omni VI+ has a very robust receiver with good sensitivity and low noise. However a common problem is that the switching diodes in the front end can be damaged by static which will reduce th
Bob, You can use two Astron 70 amp supplies in parallel to run a Herc II. I believe there are some people here on the list doing just that. Bill - K6WLM
Doc, The performance of a vertical antenna is dependent on good ground conductivity out to 100 wavelengths! With you mountain QTH you will do much better with horizontal polarization. How about a one
Noah, While it may be possible to reduce the output of your IC-745 to the five watt level it still may not be safe to drive the T-T transverter because many of the Icom rigs will output a high power
Marty, I have the N4PY control program for my Argo V and am very pleased with it. Carl is customer focused and responsive to helping with questions and problems. Keep in mind that there are a few fun
Hello Ten Tekkies, I am a fan of the Ten Tec VHF Transceiver kits. They are fun to assemble and have great receiver performance. The one thing that is not great about them is the feel of the main tun
Just a quick question or two: Can anyone tell me if the Hercules II amplifier used PIN diode (silent) switching for T/R QSK or is there some relay noise when going between transmit and receive? Is th
Mark, FYI The Ten Tec Model 651 Combiner/splitter would do the trick for you but you would have to make sure that you did NOT transmit trough this device. http://www.tentec.com/TT651.htm I purchased
Hello Bill, Sorry to hear that the ORION has to go! If your 6N2 rig is as nice as the Argo V that I got from you then I may be interested. Let me have a day or two to think it over. Hope everything e
Hello Ten Tekkies, I just finished construction of the 1210 transverter kit for another ham. I was curious about these economical kits and building one for someone else was a cheap way to find out ho
