I did this on my 238 with mixed results and the mod was not simple. You can find a reasonable turns counter on eBay for about $10. To install it you will have to disassemble the front and rear panels

There was a thread back in 2003 about replacing the elastic in the 238 tuner dial with a long, thin metal spring. This should not need replacing every few years, as is the case with the elastic. See
