Wonder if anyone has seen this. Was listening on 75 meters and just noticed all of a sudden signals dropped from 10 over S9 to S1. Also no RF out. Switched to dummy load & still no output. Switched r
If the LC band filters are switched by relays as they are in many smart rigs, it could be a stuck relay, or open relay. It may be that both of these bands use a common switched filter. Stuart Rohre K
Yep Stuart the circuit uses both 160 & 80 meters, but no relays. I printed out the schematic & believe U35 is the problem. It is a surface mount device, but no part number or exactly where U35 is loc
Gang, while not the same problem, my argonaut VI took a crap a few days after I received it from Ten Tec. Heres what mine did. On 160 meters, the power out bar graph would show 1 or 2 bars into a 50
This surface mount failure if that is it, might have been from wind building up static on the antenna. Just another reason to disconnect our rigs when not in use, from antennas. Stuart Rohre K5kVH __
Yep Stuart that is one thing I always do. If I'm not using rig, antenna is disconnected & dc power is removed from switched outlets. Also power supply is turned off at master switch which is connecte
That is correct about grounding the shield of the coax is not enough anymore to prevent damage. Static charge can build up on either side of a dipole, and when it gets high enough has been seen to ar
Lightning itself is so fickle, its cousin, static charge, follow the family preferences in causing damage. Q: Why doesn't lightning strike the same place twice? A: The same place ain't there any more
Did you decide it was static on the antenna? Did the Argonaut VI need repair? What did you have to do about it? The static? The Argonaut VI? I have an Argonaut VI. I am concerned. Connie w7cjd ______
Received Argonaut VI from Ten Tec today. They replaced pre-selector board which is board I traced problem to, but SMD too small for these eyes. Could be called low pass filter board. If there were re
I have operated portable, for years. In many ways, portable operation is simple. Now, I am establishing a QTH, I looked at quality baluns, both 9:1 and common mode. I have also looked at the Alpha De
The antenna I have Connie was made by Antennas West, which Antennas More bought out years ago, called a Windom TNT 135 foot off center feed. I paid $89 including 97 feet of RG-8X coax with isolation
Do you have a metal tower? What antenna do you think had static and what would you do about it? Connie w7cjd _______________________________________________ TenTec mailing list TenTec@contesting.com
Failures where they do not do closer than board isolation are concerning to us hams. We all want to know what and why the failure? Sounds like you were doing most things to prevent lightning damage.
I was thinking it would be sufficient to touch the end of the coax to an antistatic mat I already have. No? I do have an Alpha Delta DX-CC dipole, that has the DELTA-C Center Insulator with their bui
Connie, What you are missing is you need to constantly bleed off static that is induced and charges up a dipole or other antenna like it was a capacitor. The static can come from wind vibrating your
I disconnect the feedline entirely, from the antenna mast and from my station. I put it away, in a drawer. I operate portable, and, only now would like to have a QTH. I had never read the mast ground
<Failures where they do not do closer than board isolation are concerning to us hams. We all want to know what and why the failure?> Yep Stuart, that is my main concern is why this circuit went out.
I think TenTec should find out the problem. It would be a good outcome of our list conversation, if antennas sold had provision for, or, drawings and instructions for static bleed off, lightning prot
