When switching in the crystal filters I find if I have several stations and try to filter so I can read the weaker of the two stations (CW) the weaker one will disappear. I have the various TT filter

Alan, Are you sure that you are actually losing the "weak" CW signal, and not just filtering them out of the passband? Once you "lose" a signal, use the RIT in the fine tuning mode to try and retune
