Hi Alan, You probably do not want to use a "standard" battery charger. Many battery chargers do not have much (or even any) filtering. They may put out a half wave rectified ( lots of 60 Hz ripple )

I don't know for sure about Tentec designs, some exciters seem to be more tolerant of varying loads than other brands, but in the optimally designed PA, the load impedance to the transistor is picked

If you keep the batteries on charge while using the PA, the voltage will stay up pretty good, so the power output droop won't be as much as from running on the batteries alone getting down to 12 volt
