John, I did own an Icom IC-746 and now own a Jupiter. Compared them side-by-side for about a month. I decided to keep the Jupiter and sell the IC-746 because the Jupiter was much quieter on receive.
<snip> <snip> OOoooooh, nooooo. It sounds like Joe is saying that the Jupiter is more susceptible to RF than the ICOM. I hope this is not a portent of things to come with the Orion... 73/Carter/K8VT

Joe You experienced the Jupiter as hearing less noise. Did the Jupiter detect as many or more weak signals as the 746 when compared side by side? 73 Bob KB1CIW

Carter, Don't worry -be happy. It is my impression that most Ten Tecs are more susceptable to RF than most Japanese rigs. (I don't know why) This is not really a problem. I have little actual experie
I hardly think so. I do not hear others reporting any Jupiter RF problems. ANY rig interfaced to a computer can have multiple paths of signal return that can present problems with unbalanced, or in t
I had RF problems with my Jupiter. I had 450 ohm ladder line coming into the shack to the back ot the ten tec 238 tuner. Could not get my D104 mic to work and my SWR/ Power meter was way out of wack
Joe, Did you have any RF problem with the Jupiter? Your statement that the Icom 746 would be less prone needs explanation/clarification/ back up. Thanks and 73, Stuart K5KVH
Jeff, thanks for the account, however your RF problem sounds like RF got into the active preamp in the base of the D104 mike NOT the radio necessarily. This is a known problem of the amplified microp
Answers to some questions asked: 1. The IC-746 and Jupiter would receive a week signal about the same, the 746 would have much more white noise. The IC-746 has more noise with the NR on than the Jupi
Hello I know we are all fans of Ten Tec here. However I have a chance to trade my icom 746 for a jupiter and I would like to know what you guys think. I am interested in the better receiver primarily
Ive played with an Icom 746 and if you are used to Icoms and like them, keep it. If you think that TT has a better overall approach to design and philosophy, I do, you'd be correct and so welcome abo
Give me the name of the fellow willing to take on an IC-746. I've got some high ground in the Everglades to sell him. Mike to think. radio in to having
The Jupiter wins, I owned a 746 and I had it the same time as the Jupiter. I was able to swap the 746 for a FT847( boy did I get the better end of the deal), which is a nice radio but again the Jupit
