Perhaps it is fair to call the FLEX 6x00 average, but IMO we as amateur radio operators have done a VERY POOR JOB of telling the manufacturers what we want. If I were FLEX, I would congratulate mysel
When I watch signals on a panadapter, even very strong ones, I have to say most SSB signals fall within 3 khz width. And when they are too wide, it's because their mic gain is too high. Carl Moreschi
Carl, you are correct but don't forget, it's not most of the stations that bother us; it's the ones who drive a linear with an FT-450D... and I don't mean to pick on Yaesu. The cheaper rigs of the ot

Heck... freq-ing yes... produce it! And BRAG about it. Sell it right, as the next great thing, like everybody else is wayyyyy behind the curve... like you sold the Orion as the best %$#@ receiver out
The IC7600 is AWFUL. KE1B, 8 miles from me, drives an amp with one and chews up 20 kHz of whatever band he's on. I recently did a series of on-the-air measurements with another 7600 owned by KW6S. Th
I agree with everything you've said here! I remember when Ten Tec was the industry leader that Elecraft is today. It's what made me a Ten Tec owner then, and it's the vintage stuff from that era that
Jim, I agree. Advertising dollars is the reason. -- I am not entirely convinced by the ad dollar argument. I doubt Yaesu would pull all its ads because QST magazine says something silly or reports a

James, we're not quite in sync here. You are speculating on what Yaesu will do (and I don't mean that negatively) and I am talking about what two specific magazine testers told me. One long ago, the
Good post, Rick. Your statement about speculation here matches mine. So... My friend is looking for a "station monitor" - he wants an old Kenwood model, but said he would take a good shape Heathkit m
A FLEX-1500 or a FLEX-1000 if you can find one should work just fine as a station monitor. It will allow one to "see the band" and allow one to observe their signal within limits of the sweep range.

I agree with Bob, a SDR like a FLEX-1500, (you can buy or build for a Soft-Rock for less) along with a basic PowerSDR like program and a Radio Control Program (DXLab Commander for example) with a com
It is my understanding that earlier versions of the DSA815-TA did have some issues. These have seemingly been corrected in current production units. Mine is about 3 mos old. 73 Bob, K4TAX On 4/25/201
Thanks, guys, for the uptake on using a Flex radio as a station scope. I "built" an SDR radio Kit, produced by the German FunkAmateur organization, called a FiFi-SDR Kit (there was a favorable blurb
James, I found some of the answers to your questions at http://www.w1aex.com/fifisdr/fifisdr.html . I believe the real issue will be the audio sampling rate you select / require for the bandwidth of
THANKS GARY -- Yes... I get that. "The FiFi receiver is a very capable SDR with a newly upgraded on-board sound card that now runs with a 192 KHz sampling rate." and my sound cards can produce that h
