Steve, The Auto is not useful for CW. As you found, it notches out the tone. On manual, you can notch nearby tones to improve copiability of the desired one. The Auto is a winner on SSB for eliminati

No automatic notch filter can tell the difference between the CW you want to copy and QRM. They are all tones. Manual you have to tune something to put the notch on ONE QRM tone, I'm sure. At least t

The auto notch is to eliminate steady tones, like a tuner-upper. It sees CW as one of those steady tones it should eliminate. The manual notch is for other offensive stuff, and as has been noted, req
