You are correct, both are essentially correct, both share almost every detail of CPU hardware. I am pretty sure I dont have a stuck button since the thing worked perfectly with a different CPU instal

Hi Gary, The encoders are read using an interrupt, but the keys are read as part of the 'main loop'. I seems that the keyboard scanner has stopped scanning because it thinks that a key is still press

More new information: When I mentioned that the encoders work for the first second or so after the boot sequence has completed, the A is selected. When the S meter bump occurs=, then B: gets selected
