You'll perhaps observe that many of the people with issues have not yet sold their Orion 1/II's :) Some have of course, but then there's always some niggle somewhere, or something new and better on t

I don't have many issues with my Orion 1 but I am by no means a power user and I really like this radio except for the receive audio quality. I too experience harsh distorted SSB. When I switch over
4 years milking the Orion I for everything it's worth and 1.372/1.373b5 is the way to go. Besides the cleaner rx audio (AGC?), v1 doesn't suffer from subrx dsp filter blowby that v2 is plagued with.
One thing I notice is that the people who complain about the bad audio consistently ignore the comments made by other posters who tell them how to fix it. They get very detailed data on how to do it,
While I understand what you are saying, smooth and pleasant audio went out the instant rigs started getting DSP... For S&P audio, you need an HQ-180... Besides, I am primarily a contestor... Smooth a

Denny, I'm actually quite happy with my 1.373b5 O1. My only real issue with the O1 is the subreceiver and that's identical in the O2. So the O1 is the bargain as far as I'm concerned. 73, Barry N1EU
NQ5T: depreciation on that one so you can eat depreciation on the next one, which will also end up in the "dirt" category when the NEXT something is announced. But if you can buy the "next one" for t
Hi, Bill .. If that's the case this time, and it's what you want, then by all means .. After all of the niggling about NR in the Orion, I noticed that at least as of early December, NR had been turn
NQ5T: of early December, NR had been turned off in the next one's firmware. You're two revisions behind Grant...things move very quickly in some places... http://mailman.qth.net/pipermail/elecraft/20
So it's a work in progress? I wish you the best with whatever bunch of silicon, gold, lead (or maybe lead-free these days), arsenic, other heavy metals, carbon, fiberglass, etc. you choose to use. I
NQ5T: Yes, the difference is the date of last progress. (i.e. 1 day versus >3 years for the last official v1 - 11/30/2004). v2 does not qualify as "progress" as you stated before. :-) 73, Bill W4ZV
I'm not disagreeing with Barry, but I think the choice between V1 and V2 depends on what you do with the radio. I use it almost exclusively for contesting. For me, the most important features are IMD
Bill, You clearly don't recall the update stream when both of the Orions were introduced. OF COURSE the new one's developers have put out multiple updates since early December. There are apparently a

After reading this thread, I have concluded that I will avoid any radio newer than an Omni VI (non plus) like the plague. I started out in Ham Radio with a rockbound Knight T-60 transmitter and a Com
Allow me to elaborate on Barry's answer to that question with my own perspective. At the end of August, my station took a big lightning hit that "killed" my O1. It's a long story I'll eventually post
Might i say that the + version of the OMNI VI is a fantastic radio. I admit i did put in the INRAD roofing filter option and did the simple mod for the SSB audio, and now the rig is just ... well ...
I am very hearing imparied...wear hearing aids in both ears, and have both the omni vi plus upgraded to option 3 and the omni 7. The ssb audio between the two, if using external speakers, is pretty d
