Some guys report success with "Phil Woods" bicycle grease. I tried Mil-Comm TW-25B grease, but it was too slippery. The PTO drive slipped. Turn the knob and nothing happens! Since then I stayed with

The viscosity of the red stuff is fine for a while, but as you suggest, it does tend to eventually dry up. Decent tractor lube though - where the parts get warm each time you use the machine. I used
