Geoff's suggestion may be the best out there right now. Dragon has gone through a number of variations and it is much better at translating. The only major problem is that it is designed to translate

I tried to use Macspeech Dictate (powered by dragon) and have had lack luster results. perhaps my speech is less than perfect, but I can't get it to do my call sign correctly. At $300 bucks, micropho

If you use a panadapter, its fairly easy to see when you have the signal tuned in properly. I use a FLEX-1500 in panadapter mode as the sub-rx (N4PY mod) for my TenTec OMNI-VII and slave it with DXLa

Usually you get more punch as seen on the wattmeter and the receiver S-meter with strong lows. Sometimes you get better copy on a weak signal with a little enhancement of the highs for better articul
