All those turns are better for what? For the winding that's connected to the coax (either 50 or 75 ohms), two turns is plenty. And good luck stuffing all that wire inside the holes in those binocular
I'm not sure what kind of material you made that from, but 3 or even 4 turns is OK for the low-Z winding on the #73 solid 2-hole cores we were talking about earlier. It seemed to work well for you. :
Ever since I added back-to-back 1N4148's between the preamp's input and ground many years ago, I have never lost a transistor in my preamp. Before that, it seemed that I was replacing it after nearly
Bill, The stations on the RBN are automatic, and work even when unattended. They are not like the DX clusters which require a manual post. Call CQ and see. 73, Mike www.w0btu.com _________________ To
Hi Bill, You are right about the antennas on some RBN stations missing signals. I wouldn't mind running a 160m skimmer on the RBN myself here, perhaps somehow using all four directions my Beverage an
Like Tom said earlier, it's all about ground loss. Near the sea, a 1/2 or 5/8 wave vertical may perform very differently than a duplicate antenna a long way from the sea. The near-field and far-field
On two meters, yes indeed. But we are talking about 160. To quote Tom above: "Also, for 160, antennas are near earth. Earth spoils everything. A 160 antenna at 260 feet is like a two meter antenna at
Hi Mike, No problem. I thought I ... nevermind, I guess I need to go back and read everything again more carefully. :-) But later. I'm listening on 160m right now. No offense taken, my friend. ______
I don't understand these F-connector O-ring seal placement positions at all. On all of the plugs for RG-6 or F-6 I have ever had, if there was an o-ring (and there should be if it's outdoors) it went
There are a lot of different types of snap-and-seal RG-6 plugs. The PDF that John references helps show that. Can we see a photo of your connectors? 73, Mike www.w0btu.com _________________ Topband R
3B9EME has been calling CQ (listening up ~1) on 1822 for over an hour. But they can't seem to hear very well. At one time, they were S7 here in SW Missouri. Someone tell them to put up a Beverage ant
Well, they will be on for a few more days. http://www.qrz.com/db/3B9EME http://www.ari.verona.it/veronadxteam/3b9_2013.htm#x:3B9EME_inglese Friday night after sunset on 3505, they were S8 to S9 here.
Your point is well taken. If I sounded like I was being unappreciative and/or critical of them, I didn't mean to be. I think their main objective was EME, and 160 was kind of an afterthought. However
I didn't read everything in this thread, but there's a good alternative to a matching coil. On my 160m inverted-L, I just use two air variable capacitors, and they work great. One adjusts the impedan
Hi Mark, Saudi Arabia from a small loop! I know a seaside location is ideal, but now I just have to see if I can hear their carrier there on a Beverage here in the central USA. :-) I'm going to add t
Ok, I found the photos, and I see that I need to take new ones of the present arrangement. But here's the capacitor values in the L network. - Between the 75 ohm coax center cond. and antenna: 350 pF
Hi Jim, I'm glad to hear you (and others) liked our L-network inverted-L tuner design. All the info I have is posted in the Topband thread. I thought I had more info and pictures, but I guess I'll ha
