You don't need a trap. If you top load the vertical so it is resonant on 160 as a current fed antenna, it will also be resonant on 80 as a voltage fed antenna. You can band switch at the ground. The

I have 850 feet of open wire line to my 160 vertical. There are numerous photos of it on my web site at http://www.n6rk.com/openwire.html. It is 4 AWG stranded aluminum XHHW wire, spaced 5 inches. A

Perhaps the article answers this question, but why are 4 wire lines used? The only possible advantage I can think of would be lower characteristic impedance, but since it is easy enough to build a g

Rather than that, what I would like to see is more activity on 80 CW. If conditions on 80 are excellent, then you could try to QSY to 160. If 160 is not open, at least you have some 80 meter QSO's.

Several years ago, I built a 3/4 acre ground screen (a hexagonal area 200 feet across the flats). I used 3 foot spacing so it would work up to 40 meters. The wire was 16 gauge tinned bus wire from I

When I got my FT757 20 years ago, I was immediately disappointed by the low gain and lack of AGC action. I added 20 dB of gain to the 8 MHz IF. This was very helpful on 10 and 15 meters, especially

Right on both counts. The Anzac catalog specifically states that 30I is referred to the output. That makes sense in light of the fact that the 3OI's of the two amplifiers I mentioned are about the s

I'm wondering if I find that a dipole or inverted vee, whether high or low, is virtually always a better RX antenna than a vertical, on 160M and 80M. Sometimes it's about as good as a beverage. I rou
