Having just completed being host station for W1AW/5 and also a multi-op for the ARRL June VHF Contest where we had several guest operators at W5ZN who ranged from highly skilled HF ops, some mid leve
Greetings Bob & Reflector folks, Please allow me to provide a bit of my experience since I run both a broad side/end fire passive 8 vertical array (350 ft diameter) with a DXE controller AND a HiZ 8
Just to correct a typo, my HiZ 8 vertical array is spaced 200 ft, no 220 ft. www.w5zn.org _________________ Topband Reflector Archives - http://www.contesting.com/_topband
Stan - For about 8 years, up until this past spring, my shunt fed tower for 160 had a KT34XA (insulated elements, later upgraded to a KT36XA same insulated elements) at the top and I never experience
Mack, My actual on-the-air test and experience at my QTH in Arkansas has revealed the 8 vertical array systems outperform beverages. I wrote an article with graphs showing the signal performance diff
I have always admired WD5R's VERY quite rural QTH, which also helps tremendously! :-)) 73 Joel W5ZN www.w5zn.org _________________ Topband Reflector Archives - http://www.contesting.com/_topband
This is starting to become very amusing to me. All the Contest folks are telling the DX'er they are over reacting and becoming emotional on remote operation, and they should just calm down and enjoy
Dave - you are correct. That very statement was rather boldly made by a prominent 160 meter person right here. At the time I thought about throwing the flag on that one but decided, then, not to. I k

Sounds very much like the propagation associated with the "remote" duct ! 73 Joel W5ZN www.w5zn.org _________________ Topband Reflector Archives - http://www.contesting.com/_topband
Tonight on 160 VP8STI had a good signal. Here in Arkansas their signal arrived from the NE from around 0115z until around 0200z peaking around 5 dB above my noise floor. Around 0200z they went "QRX"
For those who may be new to 160 (and you old dogs as well), or have not read his material, Carl K9LA offers some very good insight to 160 meter propagation, including the spotlight topic. k9la.us is
