I use the same method as does Steve - K7LXC, but with a little addition that I find helpful. After " sighting " through the tower to see approximately where the anchor points should be, I tie a strip
Sounds like a pretty " shaky " idea to me, Douglas, but let' s see what the experts say. 73, Kent - K4MK -- Original Message -- From: "Douglas B Rupp" <rupp@gnat.com> To: <towertalk@contesting.com> S
Is anyone using this rotor with a relatively long run of cable ? I will need to use about 650 feet and plan to use cable with 2 # 12' s and 6 # 16' s. I am guessing that wire size will handle it just
Thanks to all who replied with good ideas about the long rotor cable run. It appears the best solution is to parallel some heavier wire with the two high current wires in the cable. That' s what I pl
I agree with Steve -- I think it is great and I wouldn' t care if they locked that scumbag cb' er up..........that' s the kind of person that has given the general public a bad impression of ham radi
Greg, Mike -W9RE - sells the strengthening kit for the 40-2CD Cushcraft yagi. I installed one of these on mine and the elements drooped down only slightly during the relatively heavy ice storms that
I' ve got one too--been using it several months--it appears to be well designed and built and works great. It easily handles 1500 watts. 73, Kent - K4MK
As I frequently have to work alone on my own antennas/ towers ( which I know is not wise from a safety standpoint ) ...I always carry a small cellular phone with me. I figure if a problem occurs and
Been doing it successfully for 47 years now, Geo.. But then, I " re-use " cars for at least 30 years before I replace them too ... 73, Kent - K4MK Weather Stations", and lot's more. Call Toll Free, 1
Hi Danny, I' ve been using variations of a phased dipole system for over 20 years at several different qth's. At present, it is installed with one 130 foot tower used as a reflector. I use heavy duty
Very good advice from W9OL.... I, too, learned the hard way- Once you have numerous ball bearings rolling around on the workshop floor, you learn quickly how not to do it. 73, Kent - K4MK
Hi Mark, How high is your swr on the upper end ? My 40-2cd is tuned for 7.150, but at the worst case at 7.000 the swr is only 2.2 to 1.0 and at 7.300 it is only 1.7 to 1.0....... My antenna is at 130
I should have said it is 350 ft. of Bury-Flex, not just plain 52 ohm coax -- the loss very well may affect the swr readings some, but at 7.0 Mhz., I would consider the loss negligible with this coax.
Gentlemen: I have one 100 ft. tower that was professionally installed and one 130 ft. tower ( both 25G ) that I and other hams installed. In all the years that I have had towers I have always checked
Ed, The comments I 've seen on the SteppIR antenna are good...I can' t say a thing against it....however, after having enjoyed my TH-11 for several years, I don' t think you will go wrong if you go a
John, All of those types you mention are good. I have had excellent results with " Bury-Flex " by Davis RF. I use it for runs up to and exceeding 400 ft, on all bands including 50 Mhz. It is tough,fl
The soil in this area is practically impermeable and drainage for a tower base, even with the recommended gravel fill, is a problem. Knowing this, when I constructed the base for my last tower ( 125
I have a variety of wire antennas supported by trees and I have found 1/16 inch galvanized cable to be the most reliable and abrasion resistant support line. Its not quite as flexible as rope, but is
Does anyone have a RC5A-3 manual that you would be willing to copy for me ? Or -does anyone know of a source from which to obtain one ? I' ve tried all the usual manual suppliers that I am aware of w
Bill, I just ordered and received 2 relays from Ameritron to replace some that were lightning-zapped in my 10V. I suspect you can get those for the 8V direct from them also. Those for the RCS-10 were
