Palomar Engineers have a "Balun Kit" that is basically Ferrite Beads that you slip over your coax and some heat shrink that you use to keep them in place. $16.50 for the RG-8 one. What is your take o
It sure looks like it would be easier to put up a Rhombic than that large yagi. I wonder how a Rhombic, in the same space would compare. It would at least be multi-band. Mike AD6AA ** Jim Lux <jimlux
When I've attempted to stress a choke by putting it at a very high voltage point and shove a lot of power to it, it will typically fail by melting the coax. If the heat source (the transmitter power)
Was the W6AM site originally a commercial site? I hadn't heard that before. As I understood it he built the Rombics himself. http://www.mapability.com/ei8ic/index.html?http&&&www.mapability.com/ei8ic
Mostly lurking and learning. I do not have a tower, but have purchased land out in the country and will be building a home sometime in the future. I do not have any specific questions, since a tower
If you only want a thin sheet of copper, check out your local (large) AC/Heating shop. This is where I got my 1 1/2 inch wide strap to ground my AH-4 in the pickup. Mike AD6AA _______________________
Get a copy of the ARRL Antenna book. It has a nice chart to show the ungrounded wire lengths to avoid. Each band needs a different length. From the book "Grounded wires will exhibit resonance at odd
Should be no problem leaving the SWR meter in-line. If he really doesn't want to leave it in-line, I once used a Homemade Field Strength Meter sitting on the dash to tune my Screwdriver antenna. (Max
I have a Butternut vertical that I use with their counterpoise kit. About a 5' foot square loop of wire held out with two poles that are crossed. I have it on a short pole clamped to a AC unit. You s
Yes, I will always go at least one size bigger than what I think I need, from now on. What looks big on the shelf will become small when in use. Mike AD6AA Also, many ________________________________
If one would grease this type of bearing, you could over grease the bearing and damage the seal. If you don't have a cover over the bearing, water would then get into the bearing. Probably with the v
I would guess the problem is not coming from the rotor control box, but from the cable (Or power cable) coming out of the box acting as a antenna. Try separating the rotor cable from the other cables
I would use a Antenna Analyzer in place of the radio to tune it the first time. Then write down the settings. If the settings are very narrow, they will be hard to find using the radio, but a lot eas
Get some help from someone with experience. It will be well worth the dinner, gas, etc. Have an Antenna Party. Or... you can check out your medical insurance. I'm sitting here with a broken foot, so
You can top load it. You can put a much larger Cap Hat on it than if you were going down the road. It would play great on 40, 80 and 160 meters. You can tune it with a simple switch. Down side is som
Should the bolts for the tower be bonded to the structural steel in the concrete base? Mike AD6AA _______________________________________________ _______________________________________________ Tower
Not really viewing as separate, being bolted to tower, it's part of the tower. It's just most pictures I see, show the legs bonded to rods and then to the ufer ground. Are you saying to do this and b
I liked the watermelon they threw off of the tower. Mike _______________________________________________ _______________________________________________ TowerTalk mailing list TowerTalk@contesting.co
Helped a friend set up a 160 meter antenna. He was 2 miles from the AM station and even the meters in the shack couldn't be trusted, let alone the MFJ analyzer. A ICE BC filter cleared everything up.
Dealt with them once, no problem. Good product, good service. I know this won't help the people who have/had problems, but I wanted to add some balance. Mike AD6AA ___________________________________
