I have a 55ft tower in my backyard with a TH7DXX and an M2 40mt dipole. The birds, Redtails and Shrikes included, only occasionally sit on the antennas looking for food. They tend to protect nests, s
I don't think so. I've used my RCS-4 for three years, mostly at legal limit, without any problems at all. They're supposed to be rated to about 3kw, if my memory of the manual is correct. I mounted m
My own experience included using a P.E. He'll give you a design that will fit your conditions and it will be correct and maybe even save you money, especially if you already have a geology report. In
Right! Do you have any bedrock at the site at all? If so, there is another solution which I used for my 55ft US Tower. I had a PE design a round hole, 15ft into bedrock. Since there was 5 ft of compa
Hi all, Last night we in L.A. had one of our Santa Ana winds. This big blow was clocked (rumour has it) at 76mph. I don't think it was that much because at that speed you can't stand up and I could.
Thanks to all for their timely advice on my Tristao that got tweaked by the wind. FYI, it was unanimous.:The tower must go! Now, the next problem: The insurance wants two estimates on replacement. Fi
All this talk about erections and vibrators certainly made me sit up and take notice! Seriously though, the comment about the vibrators is correct. I was told the same thing when I poured my base ( 3
The tower we put up was a Tristao (aka USTower) HBX-555. Because the wind rating here is 96 mph, the PE determined the base had to be at least 10 ft into bedrock. The reason The base was shaped like
OK Gang, Here's a question I feel I should know but don't. I just finished installing an expensive tower-antenna combo. It's a M2 40m dipole above a TH7DX on the top of a US Tower HDX555. Now, I'm pl
Hi gang, I have an antenna party scheduled for the morning to make adjustments to my HF tower and antenna. I was hoping the person who sold me the antenna would provide the answer by today, but I thi
I'm puzzled by this statement. You shouldn' t be waiting for the city to give you a suitable height. You should give them the height. According the FCC ruling PRB-1, local authority can not limit the
Hi all, I just finished assembling a brand new 40M1L and decided to some priliminary tuning prior to raising it on the tower next weekend. Using an SWR meter(MFJ-259) I tuned it at about 7 ft height.
Sory, forgot to mention that the 40m1L is a rotatable dipole-- no front/back. Jonathan -- FAQ on WWW: http://www.contesting.com/towertalkfaq.html Submissions: towertalk@contesting.com Administrative
Of course, I will call Mike--on Tuesday. In the meantime, I'm trying to troubleshoot this myself (my own brand of Masocism). I've checked all my joints and in retesting the SWR, I'm now seeing the me
One problem down, one to go. I checked both the linear loading bar (one set screw was loose) and the connection to MFJ-259 (original model I believe)--it was also loose. After tightening them both, t
Pat, I agree that the freq. of the best SWR will change as the antenna is raised. But that shouldn't prevent me from getting a good SWR SOMEWHERE on the spectrum. Right now, the best I'm getting is 3
Ok, Guys, we're getting somewhere. I first tried the normal setup (into the 1:1 balun) with a uncoiled length of RG58 (the only cable of any length I could liberate)between the MFJ-259 and the balun.
VERRRY Interesting! I tried your test this AM. I used a dummy load (the MFJ 264) since I didn't have any bare resistors handy. The sweep showed 2.1:1 from 6Mhz to 7.5Mhz and 2.75:1 from 7.5Mhz to 8Mh
Thank you all very much for trying to help me this weekend. I think it is now time fore to talk to Mike at M2. I'm sure he'll know exactly what's going on here. I'll report back what I find tomorrow.
TO: Pat, Phil, Dennis, Don, Jay,Joe, Guy, Eric, Bill, Bruce, Larry, Dale and Terry, Well, I spoke this morning to someone at M2 (Mike was on vacation), and they confirmed that their balun shouldn't b
