If anyone has spare LB wire-to-spreader fasteners that they would like to part with, I'd be interested in buying them to have for future quad projects. These are the type fabricated from hose clamps
I have personally experienced and measured some of the effects that Norm refers to. When I first modeled and built a four element, five band quad using separate feeds for each band via an Ameritron s
I am considering building a link coupled tuner for 160M. I am checking out components by crudely "bread boarding" with clip leads on the bench using fixed resistors for loads. Although I am able to g
I am interested in buying or trading for a split stator capacitor of about 250-300 pF per section for 160M link coupled antenna tuner. It should be capable of handling a KW or have a rating around 3
Peter, thanks for the input. And Cebik also suggested 1700 pF or so as a starting point for the 160M link. I am currently using a 3" coil with five turns cut out of the center as the link. It's not a
I have heard of CLUE from a friend, who is a retired insurance agent, and my current agent. Given the penalties that the insurance companies impose for a small claim or two (e.g., cancellation or ext
Lew McCoy also reported on the 10/20M interaction in a CQ product review article on the LB quad about 10 years ago. Based on my personal experience, separate feedlines with 1/4 wave links between the
It is my understanding that a hilltop and the proper terrain can make all the difference with a horizontal antenna. Another correspondent to this list compared a horizontal antenna on a 500' tower on

Apparently, my forwarded message from the ARRL propagation report went as an attachment rather than in the message body and was removed by the server. Anyhow, I cut and pasted below: SB PROP @ ARL $A
For some reason, I thought this was true too, but I was mistakenly confusing BN-86 with a Telrex balun. The BN-86 is as Joe describes. 73, Joe K2XX _______________________________________________ ___
I have both of my LM-470s remotely operated. All I did was parallel the existing switch on the tower with an identical remote switch in the shack. It requires paralleling six wires and bringing them
I have to agree with Dick. I can visually observe one of my towers and the cables from my shack window. The other one is 300 feet away and visible through another house window but not from the shack.
Also, W4RNL's site has a detailed discussion and lots of photos of the VMB: http://www.cebik.com/radio.html 73, Joe K2XX _______________________________________________ ______________________________
Agreed, but couldn't he have put up a five element quad on a much smaller boom at substantially lower weight and still obtained about the same gain? I'm not sure here, but if you press me, I'll model
Based on my personal experience, probably not. My DTV dish was about 15 feet from my 72 ft. tower and there was nary a flicker on 6-20M quads. 73, Joe K2XX ___________________________________________
I have had turnbuckles on my boom truss completely unscrew because of the buffeting from the wind. That might be at least a part of Dennis' problem. When I reassembled the turnbuckles, I used thread
