Was talking with a ham buddy and we somehow got on the subject of hardhats. I always wear one when part of the ground crew or usually when climbing with another person. However, when I climb my own t
I agree!!! Some years ago at W3GM's place we had 6 towers, an 80M 4-square, and 3 160M verticals. All this was on 8 acres. Seemed just about right to me! 73, Stew K3ND _______________________________
I just got some info from DX Engineering and I noticed that they carry SS U-bolts with cast aluminum saddles. They have sizes that fit 3/4 in. thru 3 in. They are made to fit over tubing and therefor
You might try blood meal or dryed blood available at garden centers. I've used it around plants in my garden and the critters avoid it like the plague. It's in powdered form so you could easily sprin
K3WW recently installed the 3 element version as an auxiliary antenna to his 3 stack of Skyhawks. It's on a 50 ft tower, not on the "big" tower" with the stack. He says its very impressive on all 5 b
I've have used brass shim stock. Get a thickness that you can form around the mast and secure with a couple of SS hose clamps. 73, Stew K3ND http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/towertalk ___
Severl years ago, Stefan, DL1IAO visited me and took a bunch of pix of my station and my 80/160 vertical. The main vertical portion is made from the boom of a KLM 4 el 40M yagi (3 inch dia., 42 ft lo
On of the locals (KD3RC) had one up. As I recall, it sagged 2-3 ft at the ends. If I were going to install one, I would do the element strengthning modifications that W6NL developed for the CC 40-2CD

I got back last Saturday from NW Vermont. It was so cold that a lot of the winter activities were impossible. The temps were in single digits and minus numbers and don't even ask about the wind chill
I ran across this small add in the Feb. 2003 QST. I hadn't seen this hardware before or heard about it previously on TT. I looks like a great way to get wire antennas up and down on a guyed tower. Ch

I had always heard that the fall arrest lanyard(s) should be attached to the BACK D-ring. As I recall, the wisdom was that if attached to the front D-ring, in the event of a fall, your head snaps bac
We used this method at W3GM's station some years ago and it works well. Gerry had some fairly large brown egg insulators attached to the tops of the various towers. As I recall, he attached them to t

Water will freeze here in the Northeast and split the bottle. I've seen gallon paint cans used. Just fill with rocks or cement and tie the rope to the handle. 73, Stew K3ND __________________________
This thread got me thinking. Several times over the years, I have read about guys installing in/on ground radials and then connecting the "far" end to a short ground rod or spike. Has anyone on TT te
A bunch of years ago, there was an article in QST/CQ/HR (?) written by someone that had adapted an auto overload spring (the ones that get installed over the rear shock absorbers) as a mast "torque a
