I purchased a Rohn TB3 bearing from Texas Towers which did not turn very smoothly and often times jammed when turning it by hand. I exchanged it for a different one (thanks Gerald) which seemed a lit
11' above the thrust bearing can put a lot of stress on the mast, especially with 150#'s of antennas. I'm not a ME, but I don't think that the 1 1/4 insert helps much. Hopefully it works out for you.
You did not say what you are using to control the relays. I've used a Top Ten Band decoder, then diodes to also control band pass filters and finally 400' of 18ga wire to the tower. Each of these dev
I have a 70' Universal aluminum freestanding tower that I also felt uncomfortable climbing. I installed guys at 35 and 70 feet to minimize the movement. Most of the sections are 26" and it seems logi
Wow, that is one strong tower! <snip> I have an 80 foot Trylon. Even if I swing my 250 pounds back and forth at the top, I can't get it to sway even a 1/4 inch. It is significantly RIGID. <snip>
Aluminum towers are much more flexible than steel ones. Your largest section is 18" and smallest is 9" which seems really small for a 96' freestanding tower. If you look at Universal Tower's catalog
There is a lot of debate on towertalk as to whether adding guys to a freestanding tower improves it's strength. I still believe that it does. Adding guys to a crankup tower is a different scenario. U
I also searched the Internet and found a university study claiming that bleach does kill the mildew. It has always worked well in my bathroom on mildew. I could not find anything on bleach harming zi
Towertalk is the only list that I currently subscribe to and I have learned a lot from various discussions. I would like to thank K7LXC for making this available. I also do not see any problem with h
It's interesting that you said this. Several years ago I tried to purchase some de-expedition antennas for a trip to Grand Cayman. I called Tom a number of times and he never returned the calls. I bu
KLM charged me $10 for a manual several years ago. Now they're out of business along with Telrex and DX-Engineering. Perhaps building antennas is not a profitable business. Free? It cost me $10 a lit
It sounds like you have to shim your rotor. You should measure your mast diameter and install the appropriate shim. I'm not sure why Hy-Gain rotors are designed for a 2.062" mast. I would not change
This thread has been going on for a while and I forgot the original question. I don't recall anyone saying this is for a self supporting tower. If it is for a guyed tower and he's building it to Rohn
I recently installed one and the bracket should clamp the tower tubing and also rest on the cross braces. I had no problems but I did notice on mine that the bracket part number was upside down when
You are lucky to get 7 years out of the cable in HI. P49MR in Aruba broke two cables in about four years. The manufacture recommends replacing the cable every three years. I had a UST 89' tower for 4
What happens to your yagis? I have a tower near salt water and I have to paint it at least once a year. What can I expect when I install antennas? John KK9A / P40A <snip> I'm oceanfront and will have
I have one in Aruba and it's been flawless so far. It also turns very fast which is great in contests. John Anyone have any experiences... good or not-so-good... with the Yaesu line of rotators? Spec
I am interested in building 4 el 15m and 4 el 20m Yagi on a single 36' boom. Does anyone have any experience, sample designs or advise on what interaction I can expect? 73, John
I put up a temporary antenna for the CQ WW Phone contest. The antenna is an old Hy-Gain 204BA and it was up for five days in Aruba. The 204BA rattled whenever the wind blew, which is all the time and
If you overlay models of a 4 and 6 element I think you will find that even at 30 degrees from center the 6 element has more gain. Certainly your coverage of Europe must be less than that. KK9A Optimu
