I would like to get an idea of how vhf/uhf antennas interact with hf antennas, spacing required and the best way to arrange them. Bands I would like to cover with the beams are 10-20, 6m, 2m, & 440.
Got the loop up & running at an average height of 18" by using 4' electric fence posts & insulators spaced 50' apart so there is a good deal of droop. Signal reports both locally and on the east coas

I am interested in knowing if anyone has experience with a horizontal loop approx 1800' either laying on the ground or a very low height above, 3-4' on regular fenceposts with insulators. I plan on u
I was wondering about the possibility or practicality of doing this where a long run would exist from the shack to the antenna. Cost wise it would be cheaper than hardline and should avoid some of th
How would you make sure that it couldn't be keyed by someone else while you are working on the antennas? I'd hate to be making an adjustment & have the rig key up, especially with an amplifier turned
Using oddball freq's & PL tones will go a long way to prevent someone elses radio from keying your rig. Ringing telephones, barking dogs, kids, & xyl's would also have to be kept from tripping the VO
Just downloaded a very interesting article titled "Learning to live with Lightning". According to this 50% of lightning strikes are more than 18,000 amps at crest and 1% are over 120,000 amps! Guess
I have run 1500 watts into a #14 THHN 3 band dipole without any problems. You have to be sure that it does not contact anything conductive (including trees) or it will arc over however. Took it down
Point the laser at the nearest gopher hill & let the lightning do the rest :) Steve KG8TX -- FAQ on WWW: http://www.contesting.com/towertalkfaq.html Submissions: towertalk@contesting.com Administrati
When running the amplifier I would cause a halogen light that was plugged into a wall socket in the other room to light everytime I sent cw or modulated. I put it on an adjacent plug (different circu
Hello all, I am trying to get an idea of what the best antenna for 40-80-160 is when limited to approx 40'. Would a horizontal loop at this height outperform a halfwave dipole for stateside contacts?
A few years back there was an article in 73 magazine about how to make a device which looked like a pom-pom to clamp to each leg of a tower every 30' or so. The premise was that lightning was ground
Is it possible to reduce QRM (mostly stateside) by raising an antenna up to around 100'? I'm running a Kenwood ts-850 with a 1.8 khz 1st IF ssb filter and am primarily interested in listening to & wo
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with stacking of log-periodic antennas such as the Cushcraft ASL-2010 or Tennadyne models. If so, how does this affect the swr curve compared to a single
Does anyone have experience with phillistran guys; strength, uv resistance, longevity, how they stand up to the elements compared to steel guys with insulators. If anyone has used both have you notic
