To: <towertalk@contesting.com> I got "roped into" measuring the resonant frequency of tree by some guy who thinks they make great antennas because they are shaped like (gag) fractals.. In order for a

Hi Tom I am using 3 verticals on 40 meters and in my opinion, they are killer antennas. There are some others here in town that use dipoles and they blow them away. In the DX contests, I can usually

Yes, verticals work. But everything is relative. I have had verticals and bob tail curtains on this property; at the same time 4 element wire quad at 100' aimed on EU and 4 el KLM at 175'. The vertic

To: <towertalk@contesting.com> Four squares traditionally use less than optimum gain phasing systems. The excellent phasing system described by Roy Lewallen (no splitter) uses 90 degree / 180 degree

Well I'm a 4-square owner and I am going to disagree with you to a point. This winter I did some comparisons with N4RJ on 80M CW. Val is running a inverted-V extended length dipole with the ends pul

Not surprising -- I ran a quick comparison between some models I have here. The 4-square has a maximum gain in its favored direction of 5.29 dBi at 26 degrees elevation. A dipole at roughly .6 wl abo

If your verticals were 40 db down, you had something BAD wrong. According to ON4UN's Low Band DX'ing, 2 phased verticals can give from 3 to 4 db gain. What was the KLM, 6 or 7 db. Where is the 40 DB?
