I'm in the process of putting up a tower and grounding system for lightning. I purchased a good quantity of copper flashing at a scrap dealer and trimmed down to 1-1/2" straps. After considerable res

After considerable research on the 'net the only clamps I've found for fixing the runs to copper ground rods are the ones made by polyphaser available for around $14 ea. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hello Dwight, The spacing of the ground rods is determined by the length of the rods themselves. Think of each ground rod as developing a sphere around it with a raduis equal to its depth e.g. for a

I've used dozens of the 58R-112S Polyphaser clamps and I don't think that $14 /each is unreasonable when protecting your system from lightning. The tower that I had in Illinois was hit by lightning n

I would guess he criss/crosses the clamps. I think I would drill a couple of rows of small holes to make a slot for the clamps to fit thru and use Penatrox as well. I agree that Polyphaser clamps at

(For pictures of what I'm talking about below, see http://www.n4fla.org/Grounding.htm ) I found a copper strap at my local Lowes that is designed to ground 3/8"-1" copper pipe. The strap is 3/4" wide

I too found the strapping clamps too large for standard 5/8 in ground rods. I did find that they work perfectly on 3/4 in ground rods usually only available at industrial electric suppliers (only in

Maybe I have misunderstood how the Polyphaser clamps are intended to be used, but if I pass the copper strip between the bolts and around one side of the nominally 5/8" ground rod (actually approx. 1

Alan: That's how they are suppose to be configured. But I too had problems using the Polyphaser clamps with my 5/8" ground rods. I had to add about 4 or 5 copper strip shims to get a good firm connec

You got it Alan, PolyPhaser states in their instructions for the clamp: "If using other than PolyPhaser ground rods, copper strap may be cut and used to shim the strap-to-rod clearance" All connecti
