I've done the same with #12 stranded THHN black insulated wire, WITHOUT the knot. That's right, the wire is looped through the insulator and wrapped back on itself. Use a really long pigtail, like 8-

I've been doing that for years on all my dipoles, and it works ok. Just make a loop in the wire with a suitable knot and tape the excess wire back on itself. Then put a rope through the loop and tie
