So Fred pointed this out ... I hadnt considered it up until then... is it a problem to just allow the legs drag in the dirt while the 60 piece with rotating ring attached (~850#) is lifted? Is there
I may be all wet here, especially since I have never done this before, but it seems if you position the base of the section you want to lift near the tower you want to lift it onto then swing the boo
Indeed you are correct ... however space is the limitation. The 60 piece was assembled with the top nearest the crane and going away from that spot that distance it goes away is probably too far for
Sounds like a big project! I hope you're taking lots of pics, I'd like to see how it all goes. Might learn something. Good luck! Jeff _______________________________________________ _________________

Gary, you might consider lashing a 4ft X 8ft sheet of plywood to the bottom tower section to protect the end of the tower while dragging it across the ground. Probably should be 3/4" thick to survive
How about strapping a 2 wheeler like move refridgerators with ? Just a thought. Mike KK9V _______________________________________________ _______________________________________________ TowerTalk mai

Jeff, It will depend on the size of the crane as to how close it has to be to the lift point and the tower base you are going to put it on. Our 100'er had to be close to the tower base to pick the 70
Hi Gerald, That is my plan! I was thinking of a double thickness of 3/4 ply that is about 2 wide. Strap it so that it reaches up about 2 and hangs down by a foot or so... my main concern with posting
I was told I need a 50 ton to reach the 148 height (above it not side sticking it as they first suggested) ... and when I went to reserve it they said theyd give me a 70 ton at the price of the 50 an

Just thinking here: With 400 pounds of dead weight resting on two legs, that is 200 pounds on each leg. Can you stand on one leg of a 55G section without bending it? Yes, of course you can, so that s

I have used a crane many times and I still say that this is a non-issue. Is it addressed in K7LXC's book? Please read my post: http://lists.contesting.com/archives//html/Towertalk/2016-10/msg00141.ht
Perhaps a non-issue for your situation, but for me it wasn't. 20' to 60' sections of Rohn 65 with K0XG rings weighed in between 600# and 1800#. A free body drawing shows the problem. A crane cable ho

The issue I had was the base plate required for a pier pin installation. It presents a rather large "plow" to be dragged very far. I would think a two wheel dolly strapped onto the bottom of the towe
The weight is irrelevant. A skilled crane operator can move the boom as it is being lifted leaving the section on the ground as a pivot point. Of course if someone wishes to build a slide or use a lo

Since my largest tower went up with a commercial tower company who builds 400' plus towers, and who required the base be managed, I would say there are definite disagreements about this. When lifting
Hmm. All I can say is we install much larger pieces of assembled tower than R55 (and 50' pieces of monopole weighing many thousands of pounds for that matter), and crane operators seem to have no pro
