I use fine wet and dry paper with kerosene or wd40 as a lubricant. It cleans the aluminum up nicely without scratching. This technique works to remove old gasket material from the mating surfaces of

I use plastic sponge abrasive washing up pads and water to clean off corrosion and guano. I also wear rubber washing up gloves as well, because the process is messy.......the aluminium will be clean

For the boom repair on the antenna here, I simply filed off the burrs, doessed it good with never seize and put it back together. As the one section is inside the other I really didn't care what it l
