What is the best way to couple phyllistran to EHS (e.g via an insulator, thimble to thimble, etc)? .. sylvan Ô¿Ô¬ -- Sylvan Katz, VE5ZX Saskatoon, SK "A Novel Perspective of Am
Loop the big grip on the lower end of the philly through the big grip on the upper end of the ehs. Nothing else needed. insulator, http://www.mscomputer.com take an additional 5 percent off
I connect the Phyllistran to the EHS using a 502 insulator. I had the 502's since I replaced the EHS recently. Thought this would make an easy way to couple the two. I use guy grips to the Phyllistra
Shouldn't the guy grip go around something that maintains its radius? Doe sit matter? Tony N2TK Loop the big grip on the lower end of the philly through the big grip on the upper end of the ehs. Noth
This is really bad practice. The guy grips are pretty brittle and cannot handle being hooked back to back without thimbles. USE THIMBLES or some other large diameter object like insulators or pay up
Hello Sylvan just connect them thimble to thimble it will work just fine. You will have to pry open the thimble on the EHS a little to get it in the thimble for the phyllistran. 73 Rick KC5AJX --Orig
My gut instincts tell me it is WRONG to loop big grips without *something* to prevent the loops from collapsing under tension. As I recall, Preformed Line Products, the manufacturer of Big Grips, spe

Although I have seen big grips looped without anything, and no apparent ill effects, on the PLP web page they show a minimum radius they want. Even some thimbles would not do if you take their page s
Correct. In addition to preventing the 'fold', a thimble or insulator, by holding the wire in a well defined path, prevents wear. I seem to recall W3LPL reporting a guywire failure at the earth ancho
In PLP's (maker of Big Grips) instruction sheet they go one step further - they state that thimbles (when used alone as in thimble-to-thimble joints) have been known to collapse (under "high tension"
That is ABSOLUTELY wrong! You MUST use HEAVY DUTY thimbles when terminating cable grips to just about anything except fittings that are specifically designed to be directly attached to a grip (such a
