Sorry for the spin off from the similar topic. I've never really understood why rovers have to rove from more than one grid ? Here Sent from my iPhone _______________________________________________
What would be the point of Roving in one grid? I would rather not use the fuel, roving in one grid on only getting qso points activating more grids you get additional points for grids already worked
Sorry hit send by mistake on my iPhone. (I miss my blackberry.) To recap I don't really grasp the intent of preventing rovers from roving from one grid and entering contests if they choose to do so ?
Someone help me understand this scenario.....if a mobile is in one grid is that person moving around or stationary?? If they are stationary in one grid could they not be "Portable" ??? Just trying to
If a person is truly stationary in one grid they can enter in almost any category except rover. If a vehicle travels more than 500 meters they are no longer valid for any category except rover (Gener
Mike can't resist (yes this is tongue in cheek) So if one drives somewhere and is stationary and works for a period of time. Packs up and moves to another location where they are stationary ... AGAIN
Joel - The problem is that there is no place for mobiles who stay in a single grid, but travel more than 500M, to enter the contest. They cannot enter as rovers if they stay in one grid: 2.5. Rover:
If this change were made to Section 2.5: "....who move in or among one or more grid squares.......", I believe this issue would be resolved. That's for those who think it may be necessary. Personally
Well I think that there are several approaches to allow mobiles to submit logs. It just needs to be done. And, as far as that guy going to WalMart with the rig in the car, I think that those are guys

I like including all stations but I am against adding a new category. A mobile that is not a rover (does not activate two or more grids) might enter as a fixed station if the rules allow or can be ch
Mike, So far, I didn't note anyone suggesting a new category, only ideas on how to let the OneGridRoverMobile station submit a contest entry. 73, Bob K0NR On 6/16/2015 8:38 PM, Mike Metroka via VHFco

Mike - I'll make a prediction. Change the Rover class to allow a Rover to enter by visiting one grid and one of these days, the Law of Unintended Consequences will kick in. A guy will coax jumper fro
Jay, That is when I suggested changing the rover category rules, to make some sort of provision that rovers have to operate in 2 (or more) spots at least 500 meters from each other. Make it a couple

I've been sitting back here, watching the discussion. Initially, my feeling about this was that modifying the contest rules to take into account operators who jump into their cars to drive to Safeway
Keith: My suggestion was similar except that the Single Op category does not exclude mobiles, hence, is OK now. The snag is since the award unit is the ARRL section, it is possible for a mobile to op
Nope. The Single Op category most definitely DOES NOT permit mobile operation, with one minor exception. That minor exception is that a person can be mobile, keeping the station within a 500m circle
I wasn't really think that the rules should be changed just so someone can make QSOs on their way to Safeway or Walmart. I had a couple of different situations in mind: 1. The guy who takes the famil
Well, Darryl, I'm making this my last post on this matter, as I seem to be the only one that wants to allow single grid mobiles to enter the VHF contests under the current rules (at least until there

Different contests have different rules. I think the rules that are under discussion are those for the ARRL January, June and September VHF contests. The August UHF contest only has four categories -
